General care instructions for factory-lacquered parquet

The lacquer protects the floor from moisture and dirt, so parquet floors can tolerate some short-term exposure to splashes of water. However, always dry any water from the floor immediately to avoid stains and swelling. It is advisable to remove splashes and stains from the floor as soon as possible. Clean water works for most common stains, but for more stubborn stains, you can use a cleaning agent suitable for hardwood floor maintenance. Strong cleaning agents and solvents (including, but not limited to: acidic, alkaline solutions, strong alcohol) can damage the varnish or oil surface. Abrasive cleaning agents shall not be used.
It is advisable to use soft felt pads on the legs of furniture to avoid unnecessary marks and scratches. Remember to protect the parquet against heavy wear with a rug, e.g. by the desk or in the hallway. In the hallway, we recommend a door mat on both sides of the front door.
Vacuuming or dry mopping is sufficient for everyday cleaning of parquet floors. Occasionally, the floor can be wiped with a damp cloth or mop, but it is important not to use too much water.
A mild detergent solution will remove most stains, but for more stubborn stains, mineral spirits (shoe polish, oil, tar, grease) and rubbing alcohol (ink, lipstick) can be used. Be careful when using solvents and test them first on an inconspicuous area or, preferably, on a piece of leftover material from the installation to avoid damage.
Steam cleaning should not be used with wooden floors.
In the rooms where parquet is installed, the air temperature should be constantly between 17 and 23 °C and the relative humidity between 35 and 60%. Pay particular attention to sufficient air humidity, especially in winter. Too dry air causes parquet to crack and, in the worst case, permanent damage to wooden materials. If necessary, use a humidifier.
Varnished floors require virtually no maintenance for the first 10-20 years. Worn parquet floors can be sanded and re-varnished to restore their original appearance.
